If you are in need of tailored manual handling courses for instructors and workforces in Perth, look no further than Harmonic Osteopathy. I specialise in providing customised, CPD-accredited training courses in manual handling and risk assessment designed to meet the unique needs of your business.

As per HSE regulations, it is crucial that manual handling training is conducted by a qualified trainer, and the importance of adapting courses to address industry specific tasks cannot be underestimated. My training is carefully tailored to cover the challenges your workforce is likely to encounter, including necessary tasks such as lifting, moving and handling objects in the workplace. Many workplaces are subject to manual handling regulations, and employers are required to ensure that their employees are trained in safe manual handling techniques. By taking a manual handling training course, individuals can ensure that they are in compliance with these regulations.

By investing in my training programs, you can significantly reduce the risk of injuries and sick days among your employees. Don't hesitate to contact Harmonic Osteopathy to explore how our services can greatly benefit your business..

Reduce the risk of manual handling injury by reducing the effort of manual handling tasks.

Data from the HSE says that injuries at work are on the decline but no fewer people are in pain. Manual Handling (MH) practises account for over a third of all workplace injuries. The current teaching is clearly not working. There is no best practise for MH, just as there is no best posture for sitting or standing.  We each have our own individuality and training should reflect this.

My methods will teach you the principles of moving with a load, how to make your movement behaviour more efficient and change your attitude to manual handling risk.

As a registered Osteopath and member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health (ACPOHE), I have expert knowledge in kinematic analysis and anatomy, which is integral to effective manual handling training. Both are statutorily registered institutions and I am bound by the professional standards of both. I also hold a Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

In a nutshell, manual handling injuries are caused when the effort (force) of a task outstrips the resilience of the person to withstand that force at any given time. This can be a one-off injury or an accumulation of repetitive injuries. To reduce this likelihood there are 3 options:

1. Reduce the effort of the task by better ergonomics and task design;

2. Reduce the effort of the task with more efficient movement behaviour;

3. Increase the resilience of the person performing the task.

Number 1 is achieved with good risk assessment and work place modifications.

It is a legal requirement to assess all manual handling tasks and reduce the risk of workplace injury to a minimum.

Allow me to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of your workplace and working practices. Or train your own in-house assessors:

This one day course will help you:

  • Have the confidence to assess risk in line with HSE best practice.
  • Train up to 8 members of your team to build in-house expertise using the HSE's own MH assessment tools and templates, including the MAC, RAPP and ART tools as well as introducing you to the benefits and restrictions of other widely used options.
  • Learn the real causes of MSDs and how to reduce them.
  • Understand the legal aspects and responsibilities in relation to manual handling.
  • Demonstrate and practice appropriate risk assessment technique.
  • Provide insight as to what the regulator will look for when it comes to the effective risk management of manual handling.

Training is on site at your organisation. Effective training should “be relevant and job specific”, “should be based on observations of current working practices, and should be informed by the views and experience of the workforce” source, HSE.

I am a registered Osteopath, member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health and NEBOSH manual handling Risk Assessor with 20 years experience of treating, managing and reducing musculoskeletal skeletal pain and injury.

Number 2 is achieved with good Manual Handling Training.

Number 3 should be achieved by improving 1 and 2.

The care industry has one of the highest rates of work related pain. Moving and handling of people is a very high risk activity if not performed efficiently to ensure the safety of both carer and the people in their care.

My people Moving and Handling training courses are customised to suit your specific working environment, the Moving and Handling activities you perform and the Moving and Handling equipment that you use.

All courses are held on site at your organisation. Effective training should “be relevant and job specific”, “staff training needs to be customised and professionally delivered, should be based on observations of current working practices, and should be informed by the views and experience of the workforce” source, HSE.
